It stores military flags from the time between the two world wars, then the period of the Second World War and the SFRY and JNA, which ended with the breakup of Yugoslavia. Therefore, the preserved military flags with the designation of Yugoslav affiliation are from its different periods: the monarchist, and then the established communist regime, as well as from the last decade of the last century when the border of the joint state was erased. So, in addition to the old ones, the Museum also keeps flags from the 20th century. Among them, a smaller number are from the period of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, while the most numerous flags are those of partisan units NOVJ, later JA. Among them, the most valuable are the flags of proletarian brigades, divisions, corps, and individual battalions. Several flags of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy have also been preserved. On the flags of the JNA units, which were awarded since 1954, emphasis was placed on ideological features.
Military flags from the period of the third decade of the 20th century to the second decade of the 21st century, that is, from the flags of the Army of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia to the flags of the Army of the Republic of Serbia, bear all the marks of their affiliation, and continuity in their care was achieved thanks to the observance of the regulations established in the Principality of Serbia that military flags are handed over to the Military Museum for safekeeping. The collection was created thanks to the implementation of the mentioned regulation, and thus its comprehensiveness was achieved and in this way the tradition of protection and preservation of the symbol of the greatest military honor and duty was established. Of particular value are the flags of the Republic of Serbia, as well as flags from the FRY period, i.e. The Yugoslav Army, of which the flags of the 125th Motorized Brigade, 549th Motorized Brigade and 63rd Parachute Brigade, which represent direct participants and witnesses of the NATO aggression, have the greatest documentary value.
Therefore, the collection also includes the military flags of the brigades of the Army of the Republic of Serbia, which belonged to them before receiving the current military flags. The mentioned flags arrived at the depot after the ceremony in Takovo, in 2015, when the bicentenary of the Second Serbian Uprising was marked, and then their ceremonial handover took place.
