TitleMinister Gašić opened the exhibition "Kosovo Battle - Living History of Serbia" in Kruševac

Minister of Defense Bratislav Gašić opened this evening the exhibition "Kosovo Battle - Living History of Serbia", organized on the occasion of Vidovday, in the Gallery of the National Museum in Kruševac. The opening of the exhibition was attended by the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Army, General Milan Mojsilović.

Opening the exhibition, Minister Gašić pointed out that the Kosovo battle is more than history for us.It is a vow embedded in the very center of the identity of the Serbian people. The work of Saint Prince Lazar and his heroes is the yardstick by which we measure the value of our own exploits for centuries. Vidovdan rose to mythical heights in our culture and remained a landmark from every historical and geographical point of our existence. Guided by its symbolism, we overcame the greatest trials that a nation could face - said the Minister of Defense. He emphasized that the folklore of the Kosovo war glorifies chivalry and self-sacrifice in defense of one's country and religion, condemns discord and despises betrayal.

- That legend, through the darkness of slavery, illuminated the path to the liberation and restoration of the Serbian state. The spirit of the Kosovo Covenant gathered the insurgents in Orašac and Takovo, strengthened the Serbian army in both Balkan wars. Our ancestors carried it with them across the icy wilderness of Albania and the battlefields of the Thessaloniki front. Finally, Vidovdan signs were also present on the battlefields of the Second World War, as well as in the days of defense against NATO aggression in 1999 - said Minister Gašić. Addressing those present, the Minister of Defense said that Kruševac is the capital city of Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović, from where the Serbian knights with their ruler set out for the Kosovo field to meet with eternity. - From today, the city of Lazarus hosts a worthy and symbolic cultural event - exhibitions dedicated to the Kosovo color organized by the Military Museum from Belgrade. I feel particularly pleased about the opportunity to address you as the Minister of Defense and a native of Kruševlja on this occasion. The Military Museum is a cultural institution within the Ministry of Defense, unique in Serbia. For more than a century, it has preserved and shown to the public the evidence of our rich and honorable military history. Before us today is a part of the treasury of the Military Museum that relates to the Kosovo battle and its historical and cultural-artistic heritage. What happened at Gazimestan in 1389 will remain forever in the consciousness of our people. Let this event be another stone in the monument to the immortality of Kosovo's heroes - emphasized Minister Gašić and declared the exhibition "Kosovo Battle - Living History of Serbia" open.

The Deputy Director of the Military Museum, Lt. Col. Miroslav Sekuloski, said that holidays like Vidovdan are a good occasion to once again shed light on numerous historical figures and episodes from the military history of Serbia through the museum's heritage, created in the period from the 14th to the 20th century. Before you are museum objects that remind us of the importance of Vidovdan in Serbian history. In the first place, you will be able to see authentic examples of weapons and military equipment from the late Middle Ages, as they were used during the Marička and Kosovo battles and the defense of the Serbian lands of Mrnjavčević, Lazarević, Kotromanić and Branković from the encroachment of the Ottoman invaders. The exhibition was organized thanks to the long-term work of several generations on collecting, preserving and presenting museum objects - said the representative of the director of the Military Museum.

The exhibition "Battle of Kosovo - the living history of Serbia" consists of three thematic units that chronologically depict the period of national history from the collapse of the Serbian Empire after the death of Emperor Stefan Dušan to the reign of the despot Stefan Lazarevic.
