The exhibition "Liberation of Serbia in 1944" was opened on the occasion of Military Museum Day
On the occasion of the Military Museum Day and 80 years since the liberation of Serbia, the exhibition "Liberation of Serbia in 1944" was opened today in the gallery of that military cultural institution on Kalemegdan. The exhibition was opened by Acting Assistant Minister for Human Resources Siniša Radović.
On that occasion, he congratulated all employees on the Day of the Military Museum and pointed out that since its foundation it has played a significant role in Serbian museology and culture and that it has always shared the fate of its people, army and country.
According to Assistant Minister Radović, the Serbian people in their history remember and record the invasions of the greatest powers and empires known to mankind, from which they were forced to defend themselves in order to preserve bare life and the right to freedom.
- Our people endured great and unimaginable sacrifices and sufferings, endured efforts beyond all limits of endurance and did not give in. It is our duty to remember and record. It is a culture of remembrance, and that is also this day. And in 1941, an unprecedented force fell on our country. In the conditions of the David and Goliath battle, the soldiers of the Yugoslav Royal Army, mostly from the ranks of the Serbian people, once again performed miraculous feats, but they could not prevent the occupation of the country - Assistant Minister Radović reminded.
He said that detachments of fighters against the occupation were organized in all areas inhabited by the Serbian people and that "they were carried by the spirit of freedom, tirelessly dealt blows to a much stronger opponent."
- The exhibition before us is an act of honoring the great struggle, but also a reminder of the sacrifices our ancestors made so that we could have this country today and the freedom we live and enjoy - said Assistant Minister Radović and added that "the exhibited exhibits are a testimony that the road to freedom is difficult and suffering, but also that the willingness to sacrifice is what makes a winner" and declared the exhibition open.
Addressing the audience, the representative of the director of the Military Museum, Major Mile Miković, said that the Military Museum is one of the symbols of Belgrade's recognition and the guardian of the history and traditions of our armed forces, but also of all the achievements of the centuries-old freedom struggle of our people.
- The museum's collections store museum objects, witnesses of time and events in our area from the birth of human civilization to the present day. The work and efforts of generations of experts who left their mark here with their work and deeds are woven into our institution - said Major Miković.
- He pointed out that the exhibition "Liberation of Serbia in 1944" is dedicated to one of a series of victories that our nation won in its long history, in a struggle that had a pure and just thought as its main motive - liberation from the occupiers.
The authors of the exhibition are the curators of the Military Museum, Petar Žarković and Nikola Todorović. The exhibition "Liberation of Serbia in 1944" shows the turning points in history in the fight for freedom, through special segments displaying the weapons and military equipment used in the fight against the occupiers during the Second World War, as well as unit markings and personal belongings of the participants in the liberation operations.
The commemoration of the Military Museum Day was attended by the head of the Directorate for Training and Doctrine of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Brigadier General Muharem Fazlić, the head of the Directorate for Tradition, Standards and Veterans, Colonel Đorđe Kalanj, members of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces, and representatives of cultural institutions.
The exhibition "Liberation of Serbia in 1944" at Kalemegdan is open until October 13 this year.
